Yoga as Therapy

Inherently all yoga is therapeutic. Nature has provided us with bodies which in health are well balanced, self contained and almost perfect. However, being a human being in the 21st century jeopardises that precious balance in many ways. The food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and even our thoughts are often compromised and not compatible with our most basic needs.

Often body and mind are at war with each other: External pressures in home environment and work don’t allow us to living our lives to our full potential, viruses and germs constantly attack our bodies and we have moved far away from our true nature. A misaligned mind, body and spirit result in illness, and when ill we need to seek the help of doctors and medication to combat the symptoms.
From there, the logical next step would be to find out what caused the imbalance in the first place, and return to a healthy body mind and spirit for good. Sadly busy medics don’t have the time to investigate every headache, stiff neck or persistent cold, and most people could not imagine that they might have resources in their own bodies that could help them heal.

Yoga based therapy is used complimentary to Western medicine – it doesn’t, and should not replace the amazing achievements of our scientiests in the cure of many illnesses.   However, a combination of yoga practices and ayurvedic principles can help to restore body and emotions to full health when illness is present. Yoga based therapy allows you to heal – it is not a cure. More specialist than general yoga practice sessions are one on one: There is no diagnosis, but observation: After seeing your body and communicating the findings we can work with a program that is helpful for you and your body. The important thing here is that you need to have the wish to heal. As you are open to shift perception and you continue to work either with your teacher and soon from the comfort of your own home.

This of course is a lot more difficult than just taking medicines, or have somebody else adjust you. It requires dedication and positivity, but with the help of your teacher both will become part of the process. Sessions help the body to function as efficiently and naturally as possible and to re-set body memory and stop injury from reoccurring.
