Learn more about Essential Oils
I used to think that essential oils are just a nicer type of room refresher, something that goes into my candle lit diffuser in my yoga studio and sets the scene. I had heard of the concept that Lavender could be calming, and knew that Grapefruit oil was nice for the early morning uplifting flow yoga class.
But that really just scratched the surface of everything essential! Therapy grade essential oils support our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing – they have become a part of my daily self-care and make up a large component of my medicine cabinet, with the results that we rarely get ill at all. So what exactly is an essential oil, and how is that possible?
Essential Oils are organic volatile compounds extracted from plants, using flowers, bark, fruits, leafs, roots or seeds (when you brush your hand over a basil plant for example, it releases those tiny little droplets of scent). They can have tremendous healing properties, and utilising these oils for healing purposes is called aromatherapy.
The idea to use essential oils for physical, emotional and mental well-being is far from being new, but these days their use in the beauty industry and as simple aromatic aids, mostly in massage and yoga studios, are most widely known.
However, their properties can be used for much more, from relaxation to home cleaning and from beauty products to natural medicine.
